Online Yoga Classes Chaturanga Dandasana

Option 1 – Beginners

So I have been away from this blog for a while for personal reasons and now I am back everything has changed. The world has completely changed and I am now hosting online yoga classes from home. Actually, this has worked out well for me. The world has opened up. Last week I had 18 online yoga students from all over the UK and one in Spain. Next week I have more, including friends in Australia!

Sleepy Places – Perfect for January Yoga Retreat

The Bedroom Yogi, as previously mentioned, is a (slightly exaggerated) description of how I feel much of the time. This would be someone from London now living in a rural place. It has come about since I moved here (Shropshire / Wolverhampton boarders) eight years ago and I know many can relate. I miss the amazing yoga and yogicity I had on tap in the big city so much. In particular West London. But I am not there now so the urge to create the life i want and share with the amazing people I have met here is STRONG. And I am doing currently via the January Yoga Retreat. You can see this on the site.

Yoga Classes in Wolverhampton Ashtanga vs. Vinyasa Flow

Ashtanga, My First Yoga Obsession

I love teaching my Tuesday morning yoga classes in Wolverhampton – some students have been with me since the class started almost three years ago.  Everyone in the class really loves yoga, almost as much as me which leads us to much yogicity chit chat.  Last week the pre-class conversation got onto Ashtanga, a type of yoga I have practiced a lot over the years. My first ever experience of yoga was ashtanga, which developed into my first ’yoga obsession’ back in in 2000 mainly at one of the original London studios, The Life Centre Notting hill.

Yogicity, A Made Up Word

From now on I am going to refer to Yogicity.  This is a new word that I have made up after eight years of practicing yoga in the sticks.   #yogicity barely exists on insta – it has been used 137 times in relation to yoga in a city.  Not the same.

Yogicity for Lovers of Yoga

Here is the what mean by Yogicity.  It is related to being a yogi, someone that lives a life in a yogic way, yes, they do yoga but it’s more that this – a way of life (see definition of yogi here on the Yoga Basics blog if you aren’t clear on this).

But in my context yogicity or yogic-ity means yogic things that we do collectively, as a noun. For example, egocentric people become egocentricity when categorised as a group by shared behaviour.   So yogicity is the description used when yogic behaviour is identified and described.  The city part is also conveniently related to the fact that a lot of yoci-city happens in cities where people (generally) have access to and greater inclination towards yoga and wellness.  True.

The Bedroom Yogi Defined

I am using the term Bedroom Yogi in this blog to describe yogis like me that feel a bit out of place in areas where there there is little interest in yoga. And prefer to just stay at home and do yoga in secret.

Post Covid update: I was obviously ahead of the curve when I wrote this. Since we are all ‘bedroom-somethings’ now. I remain a Bedroom Yogi. But a much less secret one now, since yoga has come into it’s own and practicing at home is just normal now. My life hasn’t really changed much since Covid tbh. Still here, doing yoga in my little room. And teaching from home now too.

This is The Bedroom Yogi Blog

I’m a yoga-obsessed, ‘ex-PR company owner’ from London, now living in the country, far away from city life, trying to find what I like and create the life I want.  Here I am as The Bedroom Yogi lunging forward, spreading Yogicity. Post Covid update: I was obviously ahead of the curve. Since we are all ‘bedroom-somethings’ now. I remain a Bedroom Yogi.
