Try Laying On Your Back in Yoga Nidra…to Achieve the Body You Want, for Good!

I was always an extremist, I was quite proud of the fact I was an “all of nothing” type of gal!

Now-days, not so much. It didn’t do me any good, especially where diet and exercise were concerned. My weight went up and down and my moods with it. My waistline began to dictate my moods and I was in one of two (miserable) modes:

𝟙.Super ‘healthy’ and thin (but really hungry as I was restricting food and missing it), exercising as much as I could fit in. Hardly at home – networking, social butterfly.

𝟚. Eating uncontrollably, binging on box-sets, feeling very low / disgusted with myself and up to a stone heavier. Home alone.  Hermit.

Getting Out of My Head and Injured…

So, a couple of weeks ago I busted my left shoulder and could hardly lift my arm so my handstand practice halted a bit. It’s still hurting, but today I was able to go up and do a bit and produced this beauty!

Today, I think a combination of the Spring-like weather, the shoulder injury healing and coming to the end of a big project that’s been completely consuming me for a couple of months (more to come on this very soon!) meant I really felt like getting upside-down.

Get the (Yoga) Body You Want Through Being Kind to Yourself

Facebook Live Chat and Guided Meditation (around 30 mins) 7pm tomorrow evening (Thursday 11th February) in my group.

I will be taking about how exercise does not have to be ‘no pain no gain’ to be effective. How we can focus on nurturing ourselves and working from the inside out and still get into our best, happiest shape, what-ever that looks like for you.

You want to tone up, yoga can most defiantly achieve this. You want to get seriously fit, yoga is the one! And everything in between. I have never been stronger in my life and it’s all down to yoga training.

Get Strong, Fit, Flexible and Toned

When I started years ago, I had no upper body strength at all. I couldn’t even hold a down dog for more that ten seconds without wanting to collapse. Slowly and surely I built strength, flexibility and fitness. And it didn’t even feel like I was working hard because it was so much fun. The time just flies in a yoga class because you are so immersed, physically, emotionally and mentally.

SERIOUSLY, you don’t have to pound the treadmill (boring no?) or do something that you dislike to get the body you want. Exercise does not have to be gruelling and a slog to be effective. Ditch the resistance and do what your body actually wants to do. Be kind, love thyself people!!! 💕❤️💜

My Happy Handstand Intentions and Beginner Q&A

So I said I would start documenting my handstand journey on my blog for accountability because it’s been so long (two actual months) since I really trained them properly!

Below is my intention in black ink for this project. I encourage and recommend the process of intention setting, writing it down sticking it on a wall so you see it every day and repeat to yourself when practicing. If you want a lesson in intention setting, there’s one in my group, just follow this link..

Get the Body You Want Without the Slog: 5pm Today LIVE in Facebook Yoga Group

At 5pm (Sat, 6th February) I will be LIVE in my Facebook Group (Yoga For Those Wanting to Work on the Inside AND the Outside) giving a FREE talk on how to get the body you want without the gym slog (here’s a clue – yoga). Really!

I will talk about how can you shift from feeling negative about exercise to feeling GOOD about it. And feeling good about yourself for that matter! It’s all linked.

I’ll be chatting for about 15 mins and then I’ll take you through a short feel-good guided meditation take you into Saturday night!

How do You WANT To Feel?

If you have been in my group or on my social media, you may know that the picture above is my feel good inpso shot. I want to feel like her, about exercise and life! Who is with me??

Exercise doesn’t have to be a chore to something to tick off your list. If you work from the inside out, it takes on a completely different vibe. It’s moving with the flow of you, going where your body leads you, not pushing it where it doesn’t want to go.

I’ll explain tonight. Join the group to listen in at 5pm (Yoga For Those Wanting to Work on the Inside AND the Outside). A short guided meditation will follow the chat.

The chat is an extract from my NEW 12-week programme: Peaceful Soul, Bangin’ Body. Do get in tough if you’re interested in that too: email me or Book a call

Handstands Training

Handstands Are My Happy Place – Join Me On My Journey

I have decided to start training my handstands again because I did so well with it last year, getting up to a 15 second hold. I have decided to start blogging about it because I need some accountability to help me stick to it. I’ll be giving tips and info for beginners and ho to get started as we go!

I have tried lots of methods, including going flat out with training building strength in back/shoulders, core and hip flexors and a more relaxed approach. I have found somewhere in between is best. If you go too hard, you can’t improve at the same rate and it takes time for balance to resonate with your body and being!

A little (45 mins) every day is the best way! It’s an amazing, frustrating, rewarding, exhilarating and totally addictive practice.

Handstand History

I have been able to handstand for years. I first tried it as an adult when I went through an Iyenga yoga phase in the early 00’s. You kick up against a wall to begin with and it feels so heavy and hard to hold at first and you go so red in the face and I even got little blood vessels bursting in the delicate area above my eyes. Not a good look!

But over time, as your shoulders strengthen, it starts feeling lighter and more floaty! Such an amazing feeling!

I graduated to the middle of the room but never put in enough practice to get impressive hold times. I dabbled for years after that but just didn’t take it any further and stayed at that level. As with anything you have to be consistent and put in the work to improve.

Training Courses

Last year I decided I wanted to improve my handstands. It came out of my press handstand training which is a different kind of handstand (where you press up front the ground). I was training this skill (another story!), was gaining the strength to get up but was finding I couldn’t hold when I got there.

Hence diverting to the traditional handstand training. So now I am living the handstand journey and pressing has taken a back seat. I’ll come back to it later. There’s no rush. I have a lifetime to do it in. It’s really my hobby.

So, before I began, due to years of yoga arm balancing and the press training, I had a lot of shoulder and core strength and good flexibility – necessary ingredients for hardstanding. But the missing link was balance. Balance up-side-down isn’t something you just ‘have’. You have to learn it. And it’s complicated. I had no idea how involved it would be.

I started by taking a course with Kirsty Grosart (Garage Gym Girl), a renowned gymnast and trainer or inversions (upside-down stuff). That was a year ago. And now my best hold to date is 15 seconds.

I’ve had a few months off and I’m not getting back to it. I’m going to be posting more tips and info soon! The video is some attempts last year. Not too bad….

If you want to train with me, get in touch. I have a new programme Peaceful Soul, Bangin’ Body. or book a call:

A Wholesome Collaboration – Free Yoga Classes For All

I created this blog last year and called it The Bedroom Yogi. It was born out of frustration of not being able to find what I want yoga-wise where I live, hence the title. I just did yoga at home.

How could I have ever imagined back then, how even more relevant the title would be a year later. We’re all bedroom yogis these days!
